1999 The Second Annual Activating the Medium Festival Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo, February 6 Matt Heckert (San Francisco) Kimihide Kusafuka (Japan) Koji Tano (Japan) The Second Annual Activating the Medium festival discusses sound and performance, seeking to expose sound art and installations to new audiences. Matt Heckert (San Francisco, California) explores the autonomous nature of machine and mechanical acoustics in the presentation of his entire Mechanical Sound Orchestra. Kimihide Kusafuka (Chiba, Japan) is internationally recognized as K2, performing live electronic sound manipulations with iron and steel. Koji Tano (Tokyo/Matsuyama, Japan) is best known as MSBR, whose work has been celebrated internationally for its extensive discography, installations, package designs, and industry for the sound arts.
