23five Incorporated curates various events throughout the year, introducing and exploring the medium of sound as art, often working in cross-disciplinary approaches including but not limited to performance, film, installation, sculpture, and broadcasting. From 1998-2012 our flagship presentation was the annual Activating The Medium festival -- an internationally recognized showcase for the most innovative and visionary practitioners of sound art. Each year, the festival focused on a specific theme that sought to underscore the connectivity between artists working with various methods and materials. Beginning in 2015 the flagship program shifted to the Re:Sound series with site-specific sound art performances incorporating elements of film, video, installation and dance in a disused munitions magazine on the decommissioned naval base Mare Island. 23five has hosted events throughout the state of California in conjunction with The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Exploratorium, Swissnex San Francisco, Recombinant Media Labs, Grey Area Foundation for the Arts, Beyond Baroque, Chico State University, Cuesta College San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, The Terminal, Mills College, San Francisco Cinematheque, San Francisco Art Institute, Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve, Land and Sea, and Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco.
